Selective Mutism
I've heard about selective mutism ages ago. It is a condition when someone has trouble speaking at certain situation or to certain people. Apparently it's a kind of anxiety disorder.
Somehow I think I've met someone with selective mutism. Sigh... here we go...

Selective mutism? This is the first time I heard about it.
@harry mostly the sufferers are kids. Some experienced abuse. Some kids refuse to speak at school but have no problem speaking at home, so the teacher thought he/she is being difficult.
Is it psychologically more or less the same as the "white coat syndrome"? And is it in one way or the other comparable to a guy loosing all courage face to face with the representative of the opposite sex he yearns to have a date with?
@colson From what I've read most of the time it's psychological, often they are victim of an abuse. It is comparable but much worst.
