Am I Missing the Point?
I dont normally watch telly, but last night I sort of had to and saw:
This member of parliament said that Ariel Saga is terrorism. The 'actors' on the tape are terrorizing Indonesian and foreign homes with the sex scandals. They need to be prosecuted for corrupting children's mind, and can get up to 12 years imprisonment. The esteemed member refused to see the actors might be the victim in this case, to him they are guilty of making the tape in the first place. Period. He didnt say anything about limiting children's exposure to violence and sex from the media. The real terrorist, Jibril was sentenced for only 5 years. He is appealing and his supporters were cursing the judges. Judging by how he looks, I dont think he has any remorse.
This police officer said that they are going to find out who blew the whistle on irregularities in some high ranks police officers' bank accounts. He said nothing about trying to find out about the irregularities itself, or what they are going to do about it.
It's too depressing.

Much ado about nothing is not a Indonesian speciality. But as a genuine lover of the common daily absurdity, I appreciate the crazy hype based on Peterporn.
Don't despair about the way Ariel, Jibril and Tempo are dealt with. It's ambiguous as I also said elsewhere (http://delviwahyuni.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/ariel-luna-tari-case-indonesia-will-really-never-go-no-where/#comments), but obviously investigative journalism is alive and kicking, the reli-luny fringe does get sentenced and here and elsewhere I read sensible bloggers who protest the disgrace of spending that much time on and attention to the wrong non-issue.
Well, tomorrow is July, by my own theory there's gonna be some other stupid story the media will focus on.
I hope its the Tempo story. Seems very interesting..
ps: How's being alone in the house, Colson? Do you cook yourself?
Till now I'm doing fine. Or rather, others are doing fine for me. That is: my daughter ( who seems to love me - she gave me a camcorder as a present) and her boy-friend ( who is an excellent cook) have been taking care of almost everything. They have been staying most of the time with me. Moreover: the weather is at least as good this week as it is in Indonesia and, though they play lousy, the Dutch football squad has been winning their matches..
About the stories and hypes you without any doubt are right. Yet, I maintain, don't despair.
As for me, I'm a happy single now.
(But please tell nobody that I cry in bed because I do miss my granddaughter Esha badly -and grandson Kris also of course. The way I feel about them is like the way I felt when daughter Britt went on holiday for the first time alone with her boyfriend of that moment. I want them back here - Esha and Kris I mean.
Will I ever mature?)
@ colson, glad to know that you are taken care of. Just another 3 weeks, right? Let's hope that Dutch team keeps winning (and for G_d sake, no penalty!)
I heard today it's 30ยบ in Rotterdam. Nice weather for a BBQ and getting some color :)
I wont tell a soul. It's our secret;)
i tell u a story which is not covered in indonesian national media. a girl was "caught" having sex with her lover in a tourism object in payakumbuh, west sumatra (my province)by a band of pemuda ( u know the youth group u find in villages: the karang taruna type. right at the moment those pemuda saw the act, they approach them and one of the pemuda scanned the girl's entire body with his cellphone's camera. then, the interrogated the girl whether she'd lost her virginity to her lover. and she answered "yes".
u know what happened to the girl? she committed suicide days after the incident and nothing happened to those pemudas.
Delvi, that's sick! It reminds me of the stories of chinese girls during 1998 riots. Some committed suicide, some gone nuts. and the rapists walk free to this day.
that w sumatra story is shocking...
